In May 2012 we’re running our first classic bike journey in Vietnam.

In common with other Classic Bike Journeys events, Classic Vietnam will combine luxury with adventure. The accommodation throughout is the best available and no expense has been spared to give you a fabulous, once in a lifetime holiday. Beginning with a relaxing couple of days to recover from the flight you’ll then be assigned a bike. Equipped with a professionally prepared, easy to follow route book, we depart for a 1300km driving adventure. It’s a fabulous journey covering the length of this fascinating country, riding through jungles, over mountains, along the coast, and visiting no less than four World Heritage sites. It promises to be a memorable experience. Full details, costs and itineraries will be published before the end of August.

History of the event

I first met my Vietnamese business partner in 2004 when he helped me organise a motorcycle trip through North Vietnam. A native Australian he has lived in Vietnam since 1994 and is arguably one of the world’s foremost experts in Vietnamese travel as well as being a respected authority on the history of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and the Vietnam War. It was his expertise and knowledge that Top Gear turned to when they made their recent Vietnamese program.

We prepared the groundwork for this trip in 2008, searching out the best hotels and the most beautiful roads. We’ve put together a truly amazing trip. Not only will you see the country, experience its people, its cuisine and its culture, you’ll also get a real understanding of what went on in the war, from both sides point of view. As well as some classic tourist sites, you’ll visit several places not accessible to most visitors.
